Herald of Maranatha:
Text of focus: Leviticus 10:1-2 KJV
And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. [2] And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.
The main lesson from the text of focus today is teaching us not to take God for granted.
The very glorious and mighty God we've been learning about has chosen the family of Aaron to sit in the office of priesthood before the whole of Israel.
When God first spoke directly to the congregation, He warned Moses that no one must come close to the mount, not even sheep or cattle should graze nearby, they would die. Now God brought in this family to serve before Him and these children despised Him.
Unfortunately, a lot of people still despise God today. This an era of grace before judgment, so no one dies on the spot, but there is a grave consequence for despising God.
Hebrews 10:31 KJV
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 12:29 KJV
For our God is a consuming fire.
Don't do the services of God with filthy garments. Do not render abominations unto God. Repent of every known sin and turn fully to God to serve Him.
Summary
In the chapters read today (Lev 8 to 10), we learned about how Aaron and his sons were consecrated to the service of God and permitted to have a certain portion of the Holy sacrifice made unto God. Aaron offered all the sacrifices the way God through Moses had instructed him and the glory of God descended and fire came upon the sacrifice from the presence of God. Complete obedience always brings down the glory of God. Aaron's sons tested God, they burnt strange incense in the presence of God and they died instantly. Never despise the grace of God on you.
