Gen 43 to 44 (Daily bible reading)
Text of focus: Genesis 44:9-10,12,16 KJV
With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen. [10] And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant, and ye shall be blameless. [12] And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack. [16] And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.
An interesting thing to learn from the chapters read today, on Joseph's unveiling to his brethren, is to watch your tongue.
It's common thing for people to speak rashly, due to the confidence they have in what they believe.
Jacob asked that whoever was with Laban's idol be put to death, he never knew his dear Rachel was with it. (Gen 31:32)
Rachel eventually died before getting to bethel.
Joseph's brethren said, they will all be slaves to Pharaoh if Joseph's cup was found with them. It was eventually found with them and the children of Israel, from being a celebrated family, became slaves in Egypt years later.
This is a lesson for you not to be rash in speaking.
Pause, think then speak, and allow your words to glorify God.
James 3:2 KJV
For in many things, we offend all. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
Avoid speaking under pressure, be perfect, and never offend in words.
Summary
In the chapters read today (Gen 43 to 44), we learned how Joseph was about to unveil his identity to his brethren and tried to hold down his brother. He already forgave his brethren from his heart, even before they knew he was the one.
Question
How do I avoid speaking rashly?
