Herald of Maranatha:
Genesis 8 to 11 (Daily bible reading)
Gen 8 vs 20-21 KJV (text)
And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord ; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. [21] And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
summary
From the day's reading (Genesis 8 to 11), we saw how God wiped out the polluted world sparing Noah and his family, and God blessed Noah and his sons, for the purpose of replenishing the earth (Gen 9:1-2). Their seed grew all over the face of the earth, and Canaan was cursed because of his father's sin (Gen 9:25). God also demonstrated His power by confounding the language of men, indicating how much God respects the power of unity and will not resist them except they disunite.
Focus
There is a lot to learn from these chapters, but today's focus will still be on sacrifice. Noah gave an acceptable sacrifice to God, which made God make a new covenant with humanity (Gen 8:20-22). What comes to mind is;
What sacrifice can I give to get God's attention in this manner?
A man once got God's attention and he intercepted an everlasting covenant, and he was given an eternal throne upon which our Lord Jesus will sit and reign (Luke 1:32). David was able to give a clue into what sacrifice God desires.
Psalms 51:16-17 KJV
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
It's great to know there is a sacrifice the Almighty God does not despise, God loves brokenness and contrition.
Ish 57:15 KJV
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Ish 66:1-2 KJV
Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? 2. For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
If there is any sacrifice we must offer before God this year, let it be a broken spirit and a contrite heart. Be willing to please and not hurt God with any kind of action and be quick to repent of any sin without making excuses. Be humble before God this year and watch Him honour and lift you up.
● Oh Lord give me a broken spirit and a contrite heart in Jesus' name.
● Oh Lord let your kingdom come and your will be done on earth in Jesus' name.
