Job 24‐28 (Daily bible reading)
Text of focus: Job 28:28 KJV
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Every word of God was given for our admonition and profit. We're not being kind to God by obeying His words, nor are we doing Him a favour.
It's only wise to fear God, and to have a good understanding means to depart from evil.
Many times the devil suggests evil to you as a way of achieving your heart's desires by showing yourself as being smart. The reverse is the case, abstaining from evil is smartness.
Proverbs 14:16 KJV
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Joseph in Portifa's house refused to sin against God, and he escapes defilement and became the prime minister. Joseph became the greatest man in Egypt because he loved righteousness and hated evil.
Job was described as the greatest man in the east, have you ever wondered why he was such a great man?
Job 1:1 KJV
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
Fear of God and hatred for sin was Job's secret of greatness, and it's still our recipe for greatness.
Fear God and hate evil.
Psalm 25:14 KJV
The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
Psalm 45:7 KJV
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
To be anointed above your fellows, you have to love righteousness and hate sin.
May we find grace to love righteousness.
Summary
The chapters read today (Job 24 to 28), addressed some of the comments of Job's friends that came to console him and Job's response to them. They want to force Job into accepting that he was a sinner. They were clueless about the cause of his calamity, they wanted to justify God by condemning Job. They confidently boasted in their wisdom and they were certain that Job had sinned. We need to be very careful not to sin against God by our perception of others.
God is just, irrespective, we don't have to condemn others to justify God.
Again, there are many things we do not understand, let's rather keep quiet about them.
James 3:2 KJV
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
God has not called us to judge and condemn others.
