Gen 48 to 50 (Daily bible reading)
Text of focus: Genesis 49:33 KJV
And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.
A wonderful thing to note from these chapters was the way the patriarchs died.
Death has been the most fearful thing to every human since creation, due to uncertainty about the hereafter.
The patriarchs slept and welcome their death. They have encountered God and knew death was simply a transition for them.
Genesis 50:24 KJV
And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Until Jesus, death had power over every human, but since Christ, all who are Christ's got victory over death.
Apostle Paul by the Spirit of God said death had been swallowed up in victory, hallelujah! 😃
Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; [15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Jesus has set us free from the bondage of death.
Philippians 1:21 KJV
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
All you need to do is to live to please God daily, you will not die until God says it's time.
Summary
In the chapters read today (Gen 45 to 47), we learned about the death of Jacob, his prophecies on his children, the sin of Reuben was visited as well as the anger of Simeon and Levi which made the covenant to fall on Judah. Finally, Joseph and his brethren died, but they passed on the promise of God to their seeds, this is to keep them focused on their destination.
