Gen 12 to 15 (Daily bible reading)
Text of focus: Genesis 13:14-15 KJV
And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: [15] For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
The reading for today was quite an interesting one, as it addresses the call of Abraham. There are lots of lessons, but we will focus on the matter of Lot.
Lot Abraham's nephew who followed him from Haran, got separated from him due to conflicts between their herdsmen.
The instruction God gave Abraham does not include Lot.
Genesis 12:1 KJV
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
From the instruction, Abraham was meant to leave without Lot, but he left with Lot Gen 12:4.
Who is the Lot in your life?
Lot wasn't a bad person, but he wasn't meant to be part of Abraham's journey. So some of God's promises of Abraham were hanging until he separated from Lot.
Life is about influence, you either influence or you're being influenced.
If you're getting positive influence from someone or someone is getting positive influence from you, hold on to it.
Some people supply negative influence, Flee from such.
But some people don't add or subtract from you, but they are weights, and they can delay your progress, excuse them peacefully.
Who is that person you have to separate yourself from in your journey to destiny?
There are certain promises of God that might still be delayed over your life until you separate yourself from some company.
Prayerfully examine your life, and see the companion you need to put out of your life. This does not mean to quarrel with anyone, but peacefully separate so you can fulfill your destiny.
Summary
In the chapters read today (Gen 12 to 15), we learned about the details of the call of God to Abraham, and God's promises. He obeyed immediately, but he allowed Lot to follow him. He later separated from Lot and God renewed his covenant with him. He built a great army within his household with which he rescued Lot and the king of Sodom. The king tried rewarding him, but he refused it and God rewarded him.
Question
How do I identify the companion I should separate from?
