Herald of Maranatha:
Fresh From God
Topic: Understand the scripture (Discipleship, Eschatology)
Matthew 16:28 KJV
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Mark 9:1 KJV
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
Luke 9:27 KJV
But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
How do you interpret the scriptures?Someone shared the first text and interpreted it to mean whatever was in his mind and he said how come we're still expecting the coming of Christ now?
2 Peter 1:20 KJV
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
To help our interpretation of the scriptures we need to understand it's concept, context and sometimes the chronology of the events.
On the area of the concept - the four gospels were the record of four witnesses, reporting the same event. So to get a very clear understanding of an event or a statement, you might need to read the record of the other three and do comparison. So above we have three records of the same text, each text says:
1
"till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom"
2
"till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."
3
"till they see the kingdom of God"
Only number one mentioned the son of man coming, the other two mentioned the kingdom of God, one added with power. This can first help us understand the coming kingdom referred to here was neither the coming of Christ at Rapture nor the second advent, but it was referring to the dominion of Christ over all, bringing all power under subjection.
From the context - Jesus was teaching about how priceless the soul of a man is, that we might set priorities right.
Luke 9:25 KJV
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Matthew 16:26 KJV
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mark 8:36-37 KJV
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? [37] Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
This was the summary of the message Jesus was giving 👇
1 John 2:17 KJV
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
So, further explaining, Jesus was referring to the kingdom as subduing and bringing to nought the powers of the devil and all he uses to entice. Jesus began preaching it👇
Matthew 4:17 KJV
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Jesus further explained it 👇
Matthew 12:28 KJV
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
Jesus taught us to pray it 👇
Matthew 6:10 KJV
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
The kingdom of God coming could refer to the authority of God being established, and humans responding to the will of God.
The kingdom power is what liberates us from the powers of darkness, leads the devil captivity and sets us as an authority to liberate other men.
From chronology of events - immediately after Jesus gave this statement, the next event was Christ's transfiguration. Does that have a link with the coming kingdom?
Yes it does.
From the three gospel that recorded it, that was the chronology.
Moses and Elijah were prophet who demonstrated great power on earth and both where not buried by men. So at the transfiguration the kingdom of God was fully represented. The Laws of God (Moses), the power of God, prophets (Elijah), Grace of God, Jesus the word of God, even the Apostles were there (messengers of the of the gospel).
Another view:
Moses - Prophet who manifested miracles with water.
Elijah- prophet who manifested with Fire
Jesus - the word of God
Apostles - messengers assigned to preach the gospel.
Establishing the kingdom, two prophets were present, Jesus (the connerstone) and three Apostles.
Can you relate with that 👇
Ephesians 2:19-20 KJV
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; [20] And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone ;
We are fellow citizens of the kingdom with the saints.
That was just a glimpse into understanding and interpreting the scriptures.
May we be citizens and good ambassadors of God's kingdom on earth.
