Topic: Why the heart and not the brain? (Discipleship, Grace)
Psalm 51:10 KJV
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
The need for a new heart cannot be over emphasized, it's been the desire of true worshippers through the ages.
According to science the brain is responsible for thinking and making decisions, but all of these are regarded as the functions of the heart of man in the scriptures.
Why?
Medically when the brain is dead (stops functioning), it's not the end of life, but when the heart seizes to function that's death. For a dying man, the last part of the body to stop functioning is the heart.
It's the operation of the heart that determines if one is dead or alive, hence, according to the scriptures, our hearts become responsible for the actions that determines our state and fate.
Little wonder the Scripture says:
Proverbs 4:23 KJV
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Again we were all dead in Adam, so for us to live again we need a new heart.
Genesis 2:17 KJV
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Our spiritual battle ground is the heart, that's where we use our spiritual weapons of warfare.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 KJV
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; [6] And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
The heart is the spiritual battle ground, so for any spiritual functionality the heart must be changed.
When Saul was to function as a king his heart was changed and he became another man.
1 Samuel 10:9 KJV
And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
"The heart of a matter is the matter of the heart"
God is concerned about our hearts because the decisions of life and death comes from the heart and not brain.
We could have a brainy but heartless person.
A new heart comes in place for a new spirit to operate in a man.
Carnal things are handled by the brain, but spiritual matters are of the heart, but when the heart is renewed the brain gets it right.
Do you need a new heart or a new brain?
Life application
Be deliberate about guiding your heart, avoid filthy conversations and refuse to ponder on wrong things.
See the necessity of being cleansed on a daily basis, and see the word of God as the solution to that. Desire the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

● we turn to you in full repentance, to seek you with our whole heart, have mercy on us oh Lord.
● Lord give me a new heart in Jesus name
● Lord Jesus, make and keep me pure in heart in Jesus name.
● Oh Lord I need your presence, show me your glory.
● Oh Lord, we ask for your mercy over the nations of the earth, remember mercy oh Lord.
● Pray for the preservation of the health workers.
● Pray for those affected all over the world.
● We bring China🇨🇳, Italy🇮🇪, United Kingdom🇬🇧, United States,🇱🇷 Iran🇮🇳, UAE🇦🇪, Canada🇨🇦, Nigeria🇳🇬, Ukraine🇺🇦 and all the countries affected before you, let your healing power flow through the nations in Jesus name.
