Faith (Discipleship)

Hebrews 11:1 KJV
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

I was told a story in my childhood, of a man falling from the top of a building construction site. It was a skyscraper, he suddenly laid hold on a section of the building and he was trying to save his life but he couldn't.  He cried out for help, but being that the building was so tall, no one could hear him. He then thought of the fact that he was closer to the sky, so he chose to call on God for help.
As he called on God for help, God answered and said, "son do you have faith in me?"
He said
"Yes Lord, I do"
God told him "release one hand from what you're holding"
He released one hand.
God asked again "do you still have faith?"
He said yes Lord.
God said "release the second hand"
The man suddenly screamed "No, no, no, somebody else help please"

It sounds funny how the young man could trust God by releasing one hand and never trusted God in releasing the other. That simply means he never trusted God's divine ability to save.

That's how many of us behave, while approaching God.
Faith is very powerful and pleasant before God, but doubt is irritating and disgusting to God.
By faith we receive our request, before it manifests physically.

Faith is the the air we breathe as Christians.
The text above starts with the word "Now" which indicates it was a continuation of a discussion.

It start in the previous chapter.
Hebrews 10:38-39 KJV
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. [39] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Having indicated what we should live by, he came further to explain what faith is.

Just like oxygen is required for phycal respiration, so is faith necessary for spiritual respiration.

Just as a man's body is dead without oxygen,  so is a man's spirit dead without Faith.

Faith is not just a means for receiving things from God, but a means of living in the spirit.

That's the misconception that makes us fail at times. Faith is what makes us a child of God and faith is what retains us as a child of God.

You can either be faithless or faithful. To be faithless is to disregard God and His word, to be faithful is to reverence and obey God and His word.

Faith in Christ's atoning blood saves us, faith in His words keeps us going.

We have a lot to understand about faith, it's our life.
