Herald of Maranatha:
Fresh From God
Topic: Forgive and be forgiven (Discipleship, prayer)
Matthew 6:12 KJV
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
One other key hindrance to prayers and praying is lack of forgiveness.
Many Believers find it difficult to forgive others, but they want to be forgiven.
Our text explains something very sensitive. We recite it often without pondering on it's actual meaning. Jesus through this prayer makes us know that we have some responsibilities we ought to meet so that we can pray properly.
"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
This prayer is a plain comparison, asking God to forgive as we forgive others. The question now is:
How do you forgive?
Do you forgive and part ways with malice?
Will you like God to forgive you in like manner?
Do you forgive but restrain possible helps, favour or other benefits from the person?
Would you like a similar pattern of forgiveness from God?
If your conscience is pure towards God, you can't afford to pray when you have bitterness against your brother. Unfortunately many people will force prayer through anyways and they will use great noise of prayer to cloud their conscience into silence.
Unforgiveness causes bitterness, and bitterness grieves the Holy Spirit. Only the prayers made in the Spirit gets answer. That means, unforgiveness brings bitterness and bitterness causes unanswered prayers.
"He didn't apologize, so I can't forgive him"
Who are you?
Pride is what makes forgiveness difficult, quit pride and forgive without receiving apologies.
Whenever you are forgiving someone remember you're doing yourself a favor.
How do you want to be forgiven?
Life application
Deliberately forgive everyone without waiting to receive an apology first.
Even if you feel you weren't wrong, apologize and forgive anyway, it doesn't make you less a person.
