Ephesians 5:26-28 KJV
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, [27] That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. [28] So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

We will look deeper into the purpose of marriage today through the light of our anchor scripture.
The church in need of a saviour could be likened to the woman in need of a husband. Jesus paid a great price for the church, likewise the husband will have a great price to pay over his bride.
Why did Jesus save the church?
Ephesians 5:26 KJV
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Firstly, to sanctify and cleanse her by the washing of water by the word.
Nothing so different here, the husband is a priest over his house, and he has the responsibility to get the bride in right shape.
Ephesians 5:27 KJV
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Secondly, to present unto Himself a perfect church.
The purpose here is for presentability, this is two directional, present the woman back in right shape unto yourself as a man and in turns unto Christ as a rapturable saint.
So the basic the purpose of marriage is for heaven's goal being achieved on earth. This means that as God called the woman a help meet, both the man and woman will walk together through life, helping each other to get to heaven. Not only that, but also to help many reach heaven as they walk along.
I think someone needs to review the activities in his/her marriage and set priorities right.
The purpose of marriage is NOT child bearing.
The purpose of marriage is NOT increasing in substance.
The purpose of marriage is to walk together on life's journey to heaven, with as many as possible.
This might be far from many people's expectations but it is the  TRUTH. We will come back to discuss the purpose of childbearing, sex, companionship etc in marriage as we go on, but the entire purpose of marriage is what has been stated. The purpose of childbearing,  sex, companionship etc in marriage, all falls under the the tools we use at large to fulfill the basic purpose of marriage.
