Welcome to this woderful series on Marriage Matter, here we'll be going very practical on vital marital issues, both from experience, knowledge and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The first we're looking at is the purpose of marriage. By definition Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. I've been privileged to ask this questions on several occasions at different meetings,  but no one has gotten the clear purpose of marriage right. People say for procreation, childmaking, sex, companionship etc.
It's being said that when purpose is unknown abuse is inevitable. Lack of the knowledge of the purpose of marriage has made many marriages collapse.
If anything fails to fulfill it's purpose, that thing has failed entirely. So if the purpose of marriage is for childbearing then anyone who has no child has failed in his or her marriage. Such misunderstand has made some men to go and secretly make children with another woman outside, abuse of marriage by lack of understanding of the purpose. Some women also have engaged in extramarital affairs just to bring strange children to their husbands.
To understand the purpose of marriage, we need to ruminate on our anchor scripture extensively. Relating Christ with the husband and the Church with the wife. We need to first understand how Christ engaged the church, the price He paid and why He paid that price. Then we will get a clear picture of the purpose of marriage.
