Ephesians 5:22-25 KJV
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. [23] For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. [24] Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. [25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

I've a lot marriages crash and breakdown, I've seen people say this marriage can't just work. Then I begin to wonder were they not in love at any point of their lives. Be warned ladies and gentlemen marriage is much more than expression of flattery love, seen during courtship, marriage is more real.
Marriage is the real business, no wonder it begins with a proposal.
Can my marriage really work?
If we need anything in our marriage the best person to give is the author of the marriage. In the first place marriage was God's idea, so he can best give a workable solution to every marital mess. Marriage should be done in God's way not the world's way. For any totally functional system,  there has to be functional units.
Likening marriage to Christ and the church, the head and the body, see what we have:

Ephesians 4:16 KJV
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

From this reference we see that marriage can only work by what both partners supply, that's both partner's effectual working.
There's a part for you to play as much as there's a part for your spouse to play.
From our main text, God instructs the wife to submit and the husband to love, each person's responsibility has been properly spelt out and none was stated as dependent on the other. I've heard people say, "if he shows love I will also submit" or "if she submits I will show her love".
The solution is pick up your own responsibility, irrespective of your spouse's negligence.
The wife should prayerfully submit, to her own husband and the husband should love his own wife as an obligation and a command from God which is not conditional.
