Acts 23:1 KJV
And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
The Apostle here expressed the godliness of his conscience.
Conscience can be defined as a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour. It is impossible to posses a perfectly good conscience without Christ. This is because your conscience is tutored by what your environment calls right. Human heart is naturally evil, so the society can't be always right.
Your conscience might be good before men but very evil before God. Your conscience might be perfect before the laws of the land where you dwell, but evil before God.
What the Lord demands from us is this good conscience before him.
So don't always follow your conscience, follow the word of God then you will have a good conscience.

Life application
Are you not adjusting your godliness to fit into the system at your place of work, school or society?
Or do you constantly seek acceptance of everyone around you?
Your conscience before God cannot be appraised by your acceptance by men, your community, your country etc.
Luke 16:15 KJV
And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
