Acts 22:14-15 KJV
And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. [15] For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
The story of salvation is not a fairytale neither is it a fiction, but a true, genuine and real experience, so also is the experience of salvation. Jesus is so concerned about raising witnesses, because the testimony of a witness is real.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
A witness is a person who sees an event, typically a crime or accident, take place (by definition).
Life application
You can only witness what you have seen and heard. If you haven't experienced salvation you can't witness it otherwise you're a false witness.

Little wonder many messages are not projecting the power of God, when the preacher is not a witness of what he's preaching.
Jesus chose Paul, to know His will, hear His voice and to see Him, all these forms a clear testimony to which he was a witness.Life application

Your Christian experiences has to be definite, for you to be fruitful and to be a genuine witness.
