Acts 16:33-34 KJV

And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. [34] And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

The jailer got saved, himself and his entire household were baptized the same night.

unmm... how essential is this baptism?

In many churches we have classes and lectures before we baptize. From the scriptures, baptism should follow salvation immediately, that was why the Apostles did it instantly.

"Matthew 28:19-20 KJV

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

The first "teach" symbolises preaching at salvation, then baptism before the second "teaching" which signifies discipleship. Discipleship should come after baptism. At baptism you're joined to the body of Christ.

"1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

Jesus did it, otherwise some anti-gospel critics will have some bases against baptism.

In baptism, we identify with Christ's death and resurrection.

"Romans 6:3-5 KJV

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:"

Have you been baptised?

it's important we're all baptized.
