Topic: Cover sin
Proverbs 17:9 KJV
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends..
I was just going to take notes about this portion of the scripture when I came across this illustration, which I see very useful for my notes.
"When I started using pen in my primary school, and I made a mistake, I would try hard to erase it before submitting to my teacher.
"When I started using pen in my primary school, and I made a mistake, I would try hard to erase it before submitting to my teacher.
Sometimes, I use chalk to clean my mistake but it later re-appeared.
So I began to use saliva, it worked, but only to leave holes in my books.
My teachers then used to beat me for being outrageously dirty. But all I tried to do was to cover my error.

My teachers then used to beat me for being outrageously dirty. But all I tried to do was to cover my error.
One day, a kind hearted teacher who loved me so much called me aside and he said, " Anytime you make a mistake, just cross it and move on" .
He said further " Trying to erase your mistakes would only damage your book to nothing.
I told him in protest that I don't want people to see my mistake.
My loving teacher laughed and said " Trying to erase your mistake will make more people know about your mess and the stigma is for life". Good story, right? Yes

At this point we see people do a lot to cover their sins but little or nothing to cover the sin of another. The bible says "Proverbs 28:13 KJV
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." We are meant to open up our wrongs to God and confess to necessary people rather than covering it. "James 5:16 KJV
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
For the sins of other people don't take delight in it, learn to forgive and blot out, rather than repeating or insisting on it. Give your fallen brother the room to get up. "Hebrews 12:12-13 KJV
Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; [13] And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed."
Many people evaluate their lives on the wrongs or errors of other people, the fact that your brother fell into a sin you didn't fall into does not automatically certify you as righteous. What of the ones you are battling with and trying to cover up?
We need to crave godly integrity than fleshly ego. Confess your wrongs and find peace and mercy with God. It takes courage to do that, may the Lord help us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to always seek a godly integrity rather than ego.
Remain blessed
